Tour de Cure 2011

Hi All my friends just thought I would put a note here and announce that Kev and I have decided to once again ride 100 miles in this years Tour de Cure on June 11, 2011. We are going to be gathering donations to help STOP DIABETES for the American Diabetes Association! We are asking for your help! By making a donation on our behalf, you will be helping the American Diabetes Association change the future of diabetes by providing community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure.

My cute amazing husband, Kevin, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2003 at the age of 24. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 diabetes is a genetic disease and is usually onset in the juvenile years of a person's life. Type 2 diabetes can easily be managed and even reversed through diet and lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, Type 1 diabetes cannot. Our bodies naturally produce insulin which is basically a hormone secreted from the pancreas. Insulin balances our blood sugar so that it stays at a safe level. In Type 1 diabetics, the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to regulate the blood sugar.

Due to Kevin's condition, He has to carefully monitor his blood sugar which includes testing his blood 4-6 times a day and give shots of synthetic insulin before meals. This is a tough condition to deal with and it is hard to see someone close to you having to live with it. However, we are hopeful and believe that our participation in this year's Tour de Cure will help improve the life of Kevin and all who suffer from this disease

This year Kevin will once again be wearing a Red Rider jersey to support everyone who lives with diabetes and struggles with this difficult condition every day. We know our participation in this year's Tour de Cure can and will make a difference. Please help us reach our goal of $500 by supporting us with a donation of any amount. You can go to our personal Web page http://main.diabetes.org/goto/erikapearce or http://main.diabetes.org/goto/kevinpearce to make a secure, 100% tax deductible donations. If you do not want to donate online, please make your check payable to the American Diabetes Association and email me and I will send you our address to send it to.
Thanks Everyone!
here is a picture of us in Last years Tour de Cure, it was quite the cold day! Hopefully this year we will be able to ride in better weather :p)
